To float is at once a structural condition — a thin roof hovering above the ground on minimal supports — and a quality of time in this place, where mist drifts, light shifts, and one pauses briefly on the mountain, as in a fleeting moment of respite. Songyang is a significant tea-producing region in southwestern Zhejiang, where tea gardens and villages are interwoven across mountain valleys, and tea rows, field ridges, and picking trails compose a continuous agricultural landscape. The site commands open views of rolling tea mountains in every direction, with mist occasionally rising from the valley floor. Originally accessible only by narrow field paths, the steep terrain bore no existing structures. The design originates from a slender, hovering form — wing-like or leaf-like — that minimizes physical impact on the terrain while maintaining unobstructed panoramic views. The ascending path follows and reinforces existing tea-picking routes. Granite steps wind upward through the terraces, guiding visitors toward the pavilion while preserving the spatial logic of everyday agricultural practice.
