In one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, over a hill that embraces the sea on the horizon, a couple of art collectors decided to transform an abandoned ruin into a second home for their family. The house is located in a unique setting, where the tranquility of the countryside meets the charm of the historic village.

She, originally from New York, brought with her a cosmopolitan energy and a sensitivity for contemporary lines. He, tied to Italian culture, wanted to give new voice to the history of the house. At the center of the project is their daughter, a young promise of classical dance and a student at the Ballet School of the Teatro alla Scala in Milan. Together, they dreamed of a second home that was not just a refuge, but a point of return, a place of regeneration where the beauty of the landscape and the purity of the spaces would help them relax and inspire. This house is like a blank canvas where art, family, and nature meet.

The canvas is the entire house, a sheet of white resin that envelops floors, walls, and ceilings. The resin enhances the natural light of the rooms, representing an accessible material and demonstrating that a good project does not necessarily have to cost a fortune. All surfaces serve as a backdrop for the contents, whether they are furnishings or contemporary artworks.

The custom-made furniture has been designed as vibrant color accents, and almost all feature colored mirror surfaces, transforming into authentic design elements. Tables and chairs have been selected with extreme care so that every detail harmonizes perfectly with the essence of the house, reflecting the refined taste and personality of the owners.

The house is developed on two floors, with direct access to both. It consists of four distinct volumes, two per floor. The ground floor is dedicated to the living area, conceived as a convivial and open space, while the upper floor houses the sleeping area. Here, the daughter’s room is designed to be versatile: separable from the corridor thanks to a gathered curtain, it allows the space to be modulated according to needs, ensuring both privacy and flexibility.

Today, this house is a place where past and present blend in harmonious balance. It is a living environment, capable of evolving with the family that inhabits it. Every corner tells a story: the story of a shared vision, of an art that does not just decorate but becomes an integral part of daily life. The transformation of the ruin demonstrates that, with sensitivity and creativity, it is possible to create spaces that not only preserve the lived experience but are capable of exciting and lasting over time.
