Like Yanbu Zhijie Street, Yanbu Distillery, Sanquan Match Factory and other historic landmarks embodying Yanbu’s commercial heritage, Yongping Warehouses emerged from regional trade and river shipping activities. To ensure sufficient commercial floor area for the project’s financial self-sufficiency, while maximizing the urban waterfront realm and achieving a balance between shared space and commercial operation, we elevated the park to the rooftop, allowing open space to extend along the river onto the roof. For the warehouses, however, removing the old tiles has opened up far greater possibilities for the sloped roofs. In traditional architecture, the ground is flat while roofs are pitched; people stand on the ground and look up to the roofscape.
