Upon entering, the first thing that catches the eye is a sea of banyan trees, especially the two rows along the driveway—tall and dense, forming a banyan avenue. We immediately decided to preserve all of them. The banyan avenue is 280 meters long, connecting the Cultural Center to the west and Rongdeli to the east. To the north are residential buildings that have not yet been demolished, which will be converted into part of the park (Phase II) in the future. The existing Cultural Center is the most vibrant “town center” of the entire new town. To its north lies the already completed Big Footprint Park, to its west is Shabu Avenue, across which lies the ground-floor commercial district of newly opened residential buildings, and to its south is the banyan avenue. Faced with this complex surrounding environment, both “renewal” and “innovation” are required. Therefore, we need to consider both short-term and long-term effects in our design. The Music Theater is rich in plants. The flower beds contain Crateva religiosa trees, which have a unique character when in bloom.
