Kunstsilo, a new world-class museum, is set to open its doors on 11 May 2024. Located in Kristiansandin South of Norway, Kunstsilo seamlessly integrates the Southern Norway Art Museum and theprestigious Tangen Collection of Nordic art.

Housed within a meticulously restored grain silo, Kunstsilo stands as a testament to human ingenuityand creativity. Covering three floors and boasting an expansive 3,300 square meters of exhibition space.this heritage preservation project undertaken by Mestres Wage, Mendoza Partida and BAX Studiotransforms a functionalist architectural gem designed by the esteemed architects Arne Korsmo andSverre Aasland in 1935 into a world-class cultural venue.

Kunstsilo will be more than an art museum; this innovative cultural centre will be a place to interact withdigital art, explore new ideas and experience a range of international touring exhibitions. Offeringpanoramic views of the region’s spectacular coastline, the space will also act as a venue for lectures.concerts, dining experiences, workshops, and events.

Kunstsilo的核心是坦根典藏。这一由克里斯蒂安桑出身、热爱艺术的赞助人Nicolai Tangen创立的藏品,是全球最大规模的北欧艺术私人收藏,涵盖来自丹麦、芬兰、冰岛、挪威与瑞典的300多位艺术家、超过5,500件作品。自1990年代购得第一件艺术品以来,Tangen通过其成立的AKO基金会,不仅收藏了知名艺术家的作品,也关注那些被忽视的北欧艺术家。如今,随着这些作品在Kunstsilo的长期展出与保护,它们将在全球艺术版图上留下深远印记。

 

At the heart of Kunstsilo lies the Tangen Collection, the world’s largest private collection of Nordic artFounded by Kristiansand native and devoted art patron Nicolai Tangen, the collection encompassesover 5.500 works by more than 300 artists from Denmark, Finland, lceland, Norway, and Sweden. Asart collector and patron Nicolai Tangen established the AKO Foundation and has championed art fromthe region by both renowned and overlooked artists. Acquiring his first artwork in the 1990s, thecollection will leave an enduring mark on the global art landscape through its ongoing presentation anopreservation at Kunstsilo.

Kunstsilo的开幕展览《北方的激情》(Passions of the North)(2024年5月11日至2024年秋季)将带领观众沉浸于北欧艺术的多重语境之中。展览灵感来自文学巨匠如托马斯·哈代与弗吉尼亚·伍尔夫等人,探讨社会与社群、机械与有机、乡村与城市之间的张力与对比。在布满柔和色彩与情绪氛围的25个展厅中,展览将展出700余件来自坦根典藏的作品,聚焦20世纪飞速变迁中现代艺术对生活的回应与映照。

 

Kunstsilo’s inaugural exhibition, ‘Passions of the North’(11 May 2024- autumn 2024) promises animmersive journey into Nordic art, inspired by conceptual themes drawn from literary giants like Thomas Hardy and Virginia Woolf, the exhibition explores the dynamics between society, community.mechanical and organic aspects, and the contrast between rural and urban life. Unfolding through 25rooms, each adorned with distinctive moods and pastel colours, the exhibition showcases over 700-1990,emphasising a multifaceted perspectiveNorks from the Tangen Collectionon Modern art and its reflection of life in the rapidly changing 20t century.
