藉由代表中国书法中浓墨、飞白、渲染三种笔法，此博物馆建筑由三座流线型量体交织而成，在嘉南平原一片绿色的蔗田与稻田之中，显现出墨黑色行云流水般的流动造型。
By representing the three strokes of thick ink, flying white, and rendering in Chinese calligraphy, this museum building is composed of three streamline volumes, which show the flowing shape of black flowing clouds and water in the green sugarcane fields and rice fields in the Jianan Plain.
这三个各具特色的造型具有不同的功能：由于典藏品对自然光相当敏感，因此实量体（源自浓墨）主要为典藏与展示空间；玻璃与钢柱所形塑的虚量体（源自飞白）中，则为大厅、餐饮、图书馆、办公室等空间；而第三笔划的渲染穿越过前两个交织的造型，将所有的空间联系起来。
These three distinctive shapes have different functions: because the classic collection is quite sensitive to natural light, the solid volume (from thick ink) is mainly the collection and display space; In the virtual volume formed by glass and steel columns (from flying white), there are halls, restaurants, libraries, offices and other spaces; The rendering of the third stroke passes through the first two interwoven shapes, connecting all the spaces.
参观者抵达博物馆正门时，会从湖的对岸看见这座主体建筑。走过整体设计的弧形的步道桥，从虚量体下方进入一个种满竹子的宁静中庭，参观者在此准备进入馆内参观。
When visitors arrive at the main entrance of the museum, they will see the main building from the opposite bank of the lake. Walk through the curved footpath bridge of the overall design, and enter a quiet atrium full of bamboo from the lower part of the virtual volume, where visitors are ready to enter the museum.
进入大厅后，硕大的帷幕玻璃将东侧优美的湖景尽收眼底。一座宽广的楼梯引领参观者缓步而上，抵达虚、实量体交会处之导览空间，一系列的精美展示由此开始。
After entering the hall, the huge curtain glass will have a panoramic view of the beautiful lake view on the east side. A wide staircase leads the visitors slowly up to the guide space at the intersection of virtual and real volumes, and a series of exquisite displays begin.
实量体建筑的外观由36,000多片铸铝圆盘外挂于弧型墙面所构成，以现代数码化的设计呈现古老铜器上的龙纹及云纹。当阳光移动时，经由圆盘的反射，“在云中移动的龙”会在此独特设计的弧形立面上呈现出来。
The appearance of the massive building is composed of more than 36000 cast aluminum discs hanging on the arc wall. The modern digital design presents the dragon and cloud patterns on the ancient bronze ware. When the sun moves, through the reflection of the disk, the "dragon moving in the cloud" will appear on the arc facade of this unique design.
