满觉陇 — 杭城的赏桂圣地 Manjuelong – a sacred place for enjoying osmanthus in Hangzhou

满觉陇，因曾有佛寺“满觉院”而得名。明代万历年间，这里已是杭城赏桂圣地，村民都以桂花为专业，一直延续到清代中后期。当时著名的藏书家丁立诚曾在《满觉陇担桂》中提到“桂花蒸过花信动，桂花开遍满觉陇。卖花人试卖花声，一路桂花香进城。”一到秋季，桂花飘落如雨，空气中的桂花香沁入心脾，人们纷纷出动，沿着赏桂路线寻香问茶。桂花树下一杯茶，胜却人间无数。

Manjuelong is named after the Buddhist temple “Manjue Monastery” that once existed there. During the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty, this place was already a sacred spot for enjoying osmanthus in Hangzhou. The villagers all made osmanthus as their profession, and this practice continued until the middle and late Qing Dynasty. At that time, the renowned book collector Ding Licheng once mentioned in article “Manjuelong Carrying Osmanthus” that “Osmanthus flowers, after being steamed, bloom with their petals fluttering; osmanthus flowers are in full bloom all over Manjuelong. The flower seller tried to sell flowers, and the fragrance of osmanthus filled the city all the way “. When autumn comes, osmanthus flowers fall like rain, and the fragrance of osmanthus in the air permeates the heart and soul. People come out in droves, following the osmanthus viewing route to search for fragrance and tea tasting. A cup of tea under the osmanthus tree is better than any others in the world.

Osmanthus·桂·山中料理，位于上满觉陇18号，坐拥南高峰、白鹤峰环抱山景。“桂”餐厅主打中、日融合料理，精心挑选各类食材，佐以出乎异想的烹饪碰撞，既有接地气的中式口味，又兼具审美在线的菜品出盘，以细腻别致的特色吸引味蕾。躲进群山环抱里，不知不觉慢下来，低声细语起来，三餐四季，细细品味这一份美好。

Osmanthus · GUI · Cuisine in mountain is located at No.18, Shangmanjuelong, surrounded by the mountain views of South Peak and White Crane Peak. The “GUI” restaurant specializes in a blend of Chinese and Japanese cuisine. It carefully selects various ingredients and pairs them with unexpected cooking collisions. The dishes offer both down-to-earth Chinese flavors and aesthetic appeal, attracting taste buds with their delicate and unique characteristics. Hiding in the embrace of the mountains, people unconsciously slow down and begin to whisper softly. Through the three meals a day and the four seasons, one savors this beauty carefully.

遵循原建筑的改造 Follow the renovation of the original building

“桂”餐厅上下两层，前身是家5间客房的民宿，业主希望可以部分保留原有的“时间肌理”，并植入新的餐厅功能。打开原民宿的设计方案，我们顺着原建筑的结构摸索，在尽量不变格局的基础上，在原始客房隔墙上开出几处必要的门洞、用于餐厅动线和视觉秩序的梳理。同时，拆除不受力的多余隔墙，将空间最大限度开放，后续使用软性隔断手法作为区域的划分。

The “GUI” restaurant has two floors. It was formerly a five-room guesthouse. The owner hopes to partially retain the original “time texture” and incorporate new restaurant functions. Upon opening the design plan of the original homestay, we followed the structure of the original building to explore. On the basis of keeping the layout as unchanged as possible, we made several necessary door openings on the partition walls of the original guest rooms to sort out the flow of the dining room and the visual order. At the same time, remove the redundant partition walls that do not bear force to maximize the opening of the space. Subsequently, use soft partition techniques to divide the areas.

理想的家 The ideal home

改造后，上满觉陇18号以一种新的形式重新呈现。她既有家的温馨，又比家优雅精致；她是餐厅，又不像餐厅那般商业，更多一份轻松随意。

After the renovation, No.18 of Shangmanjuelong has been re-presented in a new form. She has the warmth of home, yet is more elegant and refined than home. It’s a restaurant, but not as commercial as a regular one. It’s more relaxed and casual.

从迈入“桂”大门的那一刻起，一系列完整的体验缓缓展开 — 置身于大自然的怀抱，眼前是精心打造的优雅环境，餐厅为你挑选健康食材，菜品好看又好吃。于是，有种情愫在心里悄然生长“我也好想有个这样的家，一个理想的家”。生活之余，多了份追求和向往。

From the moment you step through the “GUI” gate, a series of complete experiences gradually unfold – immersed in the embrace of nature, with an elegant and meticulously crafted environment before your eyes, the restaurant selects healthy ingredients for you, and the dishes are both visually pleasing and delicious. So, a sentiment quietly grew in my heart: “I also long to have such a home, an ideal home.” In the midst of life, there is an additional pursuit and yearning.

在江南园林中，门窗之间仿佛漏大千世界，收风月无边。“桂”餐厅采取白墙黑瓦，木制门框，搭配圆形、方形开窗，一窗一景致，一窗一风韵，将周边群山之景引为大舞台，“桂”便是一个轻施粉黛的小家碧玉。

In the gardens of the Jiangnan region, it seems as if the vast world is revealed between the doors and windows, and the wind and moon are boundless. The “GUI” restaurant features white walls and black tiles, wooden door frames, and round or square windows. Each window offers a different view and charm, turning the surrounding mountain scenery into a grand stage. “GUI” is like a delicate and charming young lady with a touch of makeup.

松弛，一场有计划的随意 Relax, a planned casualness

正如所说，“你必须全力以赴，才能看起来毫不费力” ，“桂”餐厅呈现出来的松弛，是一种精心设计的从容。你在这里体验到的放松，无一不出自细节的设计，用心的经营，润物细无声般渗入每一个细胞。粗腻子粉刷的墙面，原始水泥预制板的天花，局部裸露的红砖及现浇水泥柱，工人偶然敲击形成的不规则门洞，原始客房一楼的挂画、老门，裸露的风管机空调，闲鱼淘来的旧玻璃灯罩、黄铜拉手等等，这一切看似“老、旧”，但都是在秉承“美“的前提下、通过精挑细选而形成的品味与调性。

As the saying goes, “You must go all out to look effortless.” The relaxation presented by “GUI” Restaurant is a carefully designed composure. The relaxation you experience here is all the result of meticulous design and careful management, seeping into every cell imperceptibly. The walls plastered with coarse putty, the ceiling made of original precast cement slabs, the partially exposed red bricks and cast-in-place cement columns, the irregular door openings formed by workers’ accidental tapping, the paintings and old doors on the first floor of the original guest room, the exposed ducted air conditioner, the old glass lampshade and brass handles found on secondhand website, all these seem “old”. But all of them are the tastes and tones formed through careful selection under the premise of adhering to “beauty”.
