This home is tailored for the homeowner, a retired woman living alone. Drawing on traditional Chinese garden-making techniques, the design restructures spatial logic—introducing a yingbi (spirit screen), half-wall columns, and a winding corridor to create a sense of compression and release, evoking a meandering garden experience.

Relocating the sunken floor in the public bathroom opened up five consecutive mountain-view windows, turning a once-dark corridor into a space “where every step has a view.” Two unused bedrooms was transformed into a tranquil reading room for the homeowner, framing the green mountains beyond the window to bring a sense of poetic depth into the interior.

Natural materials such as French oak, Burmese teak, and Japanese cypress are used throughout, paired with minimalist solid-wood detailing, resulting in a residence that is both serene and contemporary.
