位于中国美术学院象山校区的“水岸山居”，是教授王澍为中国美术学院设计的专家楼，也是他获得“建筑界诺贝尔奖”普利兹克奖后的第一件作品。建筑内设茶室、餐厅、客房。

Located at the Xiangshan campus of the China Academy of Art, "Shui 'an Mountain Residence" is Professor Wang Shu's expert building for the academy and his first work after winning the Pritzker Prize, the Nobel Prize in architecture. The building contains tea rooms, restaurants and guest rooms.

如何将传统的夯土建筑应用到现代是王澍在研究的课题，水岸山居就是他们的“科研成果”。波浪形的黑瓦屋顶，黄色的土墙，水岸山居宛如水乡的长廊，又如山地的村落，而它利落的线条和回转的空间，也充满现代美感。在水岸山居这样一个实验性的建筑中，王澍既探索了生土材料，也尝试在一栋建筑中解决一个村落的设计，“它还是用建筑的方式，演绎中国传统的山水绘画和进入式结构。如果把这个建筑立起来，它就像一个山水立轴。”

With its wavy black tile roof and yellow earth walls, it is like a corridor in a water village or a village in a mountain. Its neat lines and revolving space are full of modern beauty. In this experimental building, Wang explores both raw materials and the design of a village in one building. "It also uses architecture to interpret traditional Chinese landscape painting and entry structure. If you stand this building up, it looks like a vertical axis of landscape."

Wang Shu simply uses the roof as a medium between architecture and nature, similar to the way Chinese painters paint landscapes -- they both aim to convey personal feelings, experiences and thoughts in nature in a way. Mountains and water, such images exist not only in landscape paintings, but also in rural areas of Zhejiang Province. This is where Wang's inspiration came from. His combination of mountains and water, as well as the traditional temperament of scholars and the city of Hangzhou, together constitute the design and even the site-it sits on the mountain facing the water, as if the experience brought by two-dimensional landscape painting is reinterpreted with three-dimensional modern architecture.

In Wang's concept, the interior of the long building itself should be a kind of landscape. As you walk from one side of the building to the other, from the restaurant walkway to the teahouse, or from the 30 guest rooms to the meeting hall, the changes in visual and spatial experience that you experience during the walk are all part of the "landscape". The sense of rhythm, Wang explains, is like the idyllic poems of the Wei and Jin dynasties, short and light and free. This rhythm controls the spatial changes of the waterfront and the mountains -- they are as smooth as poetry.

There may be criticism that Shui Yan Shan House is just a modern structure dressed in traditional clothes, but Wang Shu has developed his own sophisticated architectural language from an affinity and understanding of traditional culture. It is no accident that Wang Shu has burst onto the world architecture scene, just as China is focused on developing its own path to modernity. There are so many young people today who are learning and dealing with life's challenges in the campuses he designed. And what Wang Shu, as an architect, can do for them is to open their lives to a profound thought and aesthetic experience.
