香椿在山东人生活中意义独特，是乡愁与地域文化的象征。香椿多为雨生，种子随风漂泊，因春天味道浓烈，成为 “食春” 重要食材。在山东淄博市淄川区的一处峡谷里，四粒香椿种子曾在孤石旁扎根生长，如今化为环绕岩石的四棵大树。它们见证了自然的演替，也成为承载地域记忆与情感的符号，因此成为“涡聚”艺术装置的核心与叙事起点。

Xiangchun (toona sinensis) holds a unique significance in the lives of people in Shandong, symbolizing nostalgia and regional culture. Often rain-grown, its seeds drift with the wind. Due of their intense spring aroma, it becomes a key ingredient for “tasting the spring.” In the valley of Zibo City, Shandong, four Xiangchun seeds once took root and grew beside a solitary rock, eventually transforming into four large trees encircling the rock. They witness the natural succession and have become symbols carrying local memory and emotion, forming the core and narrative starting point for the “Circle Pit” installation.

“涡聚”为自发活动而生，名字源自金属乐现场 “Circle Pit”，这种环绕互动象征群体凝聚力与能量流动，促进人们在空间中运动、碰撞、交流，Studio Clash希望通过‘涡聚’让日常的乡野空间成为承载社群能量的舞台。最初，这片草地虽作为民宿活动的理想场地，却缺乏一个可定义的载体。“涡聚”正是回应这一需求：它既是可以容纳人群的阶梯坐席，也能转变为活动的舞台；其背侧的环形座椅为儿童提供了玩耍的角落。在尊重自然偶然性，以谦逊姿态介入，不改变自然演替轨迹，赋予其社群意义，成为庆典舞台，让人们聚集见证土地记忆。

“Circle Pit” was created for spontaneous activities. Its name draws inspiration from the metal music live phenomenon “circle pit,” where this circular interaction symbolizes group cohesion and energy flow, encouraging movement within a space. Studio Clash aimed to use “Circle Pit” to transform an everyday rural space into a stage for community energy. Initially, this grassy area was an ideal location for a homestay event but lacked a defined platform. “Circle Pit” responds to this need, it functions both as tiered seating for crowds and can transform into a stage for events; the circular seating on its back provides a playful nook for children. The installation intervenes humbly, respecting nature’s randomness without altering the trajectory of natural succession, while imbuing the space with community significance. It becomes a stage for celebration, allowing people to gather and witness the memory of the land.

装置以多个圆形错叠环绕中心的香椿树与岩石。四棵香椿树是当地居民的集体记忆，因此在设计与施工中，团队将植物保护放在首位。装置布局避开香椿树根系区域，采用轻量化结构支撑，减少对树木生长环境的干扰。施工时有专业园艺人员指导，确保不影响香椿树生长，让其在装置环绕下继续茁壮。

The installation consists of multiple overlapping circles surrounding the central Xiangchun trees and rock. These four trees are a part of the collective memory of local residents, so the team prioritized plant protection throughout the design and construction process. The layout avoids the root systems of the trees, employing a lightweight supporting structure to minimize disturbance to their growth environment. Professional horticulturists provided guidance during construction to ensure the trees’ growth was unaffected, allowing them to continue thriving within the embrace of the installation.

7.2 米直径的动态螺旋，有 2.3 米高观景台，形成可休憩、观景的阶梯式平台。背后环形座椅高低错落，让人们既能在其下方的阴凉空间里躲避烈日，又能成为互动的一部分。同时给儿童庇护感，方便他们玩耍、休憩。这里成为承载日常活动的空间，人们可聚集、远眺或成为表演者，这也强化了将楼梯用作装置的想法，是对空间和时间的重新诠释。

The 7.2-meter diameter dynamic spiral features a 2.3-meter high viewing platform, forms a step-like platform for resting and sightseeing. The circular seating at the back is arranged at varying heights, allowing people to find shade beneath it to escape the sun while still being part of the interaction. It provides a sense of shelter for children, making it convenient for play and rest. This space becomes a vessel for daily activities, a place for people to gather, gaze into the distance, or become performers. This reinforced the idea of using stairs as the primary form of the installation, serving as a reinterpretation of both space and time.

“涡聚” 采用钢结构搭建，在对节点进行设计之后，采用标准化连接件，为可拆卸设计提供基础。这便于后期维护，且当装置使命完成或需迁移时，构件可回收再利用。凭借其空间性，“涡聚” 鼓励人们在其中穿梭、探索。外层穿孔板削弱体量感。扶手下方有 LED 灯条，夜晚光从孔洞溢出，如山间悬浮的灯笼，重新定义人与山谷的关系。

“Circle Pit” is constructed with a steel structure, with the design of its joints, standardized connectors were used, providing a foundation for its detachable design. This facilitates future maintenance and allows for components to be recycled and reused once the installation’s purpose is fulfilled or if it needs to be relocated. Through its spatial design, “Circle Pit” encourages people to move through and explore it. The outer layer of perforated panels reduces the sense of massiveness. LED light strips installed beneath the handrails cast light through the perforations at night, resembling lanterns floating in the mountains, redefining the relationship between people and the valley.
