The SITH Villa is a residence for a family of four located near Vellore, along the bustling Chennai-Bengaluru national highway. Amidst expansive agricultural landscapes, the villa represents a blend of serenity and innovative design, redefining sustainable living in a modern context.

场地的线性特征既带来了设计挑战，也提供了创造互联空间的机会，从而提升整体居住体验。通过在不同建筑体量之间引入开放空间，我们模糊了室内与室外之间的边界。这些过渡区域可容纳多种活动——从安静阅读到充满活力的社交聚会——同时，自然光充盈其中，穿过砖砌花墙（jali wall）的微风则为空间带来凉意。整体布局在需要时保证私密性，而在能够提升使用体验的地方则保持开放。

The site’s linearity posed design challenges but also opportunities to create interconnected spaces that enhance the living experience. By introducing open areas between different structures, we blurred the boundaries between indoors and outdoors. These transitional zones accommodate various activities, from quiet reading to vibrant social gatherings, all while being bathed in natural light and cooled by breezes passing through brick jali walls. The arrangement ensures privacy where needed and openness where it enhances the user experience.

这种线性关系也使我们得以探索视角与流动性的变化。当居住者在住宅中穿行时，封闭与开放空间交替形成的节奏，营造出一种动态的空间体验，不断变化的空间品质也进一步提升了功能性。这一设计在居住者与环境的日常互动中，形成了一种独特的空间叙事。

This linearity also allowed us to play with perspectives and movement. As residents navigate the house, the rhythm of enclosed and open spaces provides a dynamic experience, shifting spatial quality and enhancing functionality. This design creates a unique narrative as residents interact with their environment daily.

可持续性是SITH别墅设计与建造的核心原则。项目大量采用夯土墙体，通过在模板中压实本地泥土，形成坚固且具备优异热工性能的墙体。这一技术有助于维持舒适的室内温度，减少对人工制冷与供暖的依赖，从而降低建筑的碳足迹。

Sustainability was a core principle in SITH Villa’s design and construction. The project prominently features rammed earth walls, which involve compressing local mud within formwork to create robust walls with excellent thermal properties. This technique helps maintain comfortable indoor temperatures, reducing reliance on artificial heating and cooling, thus minimizing the carbon footprint.

传统建造方式同样在别墅设计中发挥重要作用。部分砖墙采用“鼠洞式砌筑法”（Rat-trap bond），以提升热隔离性能并减少砖块使用，从而提高资源利用效率。此外，楼梯采用本地回收钢材建造，也进一步强调了我们减少浪费与推动循环经济的设计理念。

Traditional methods also play a role in the villa’s design. Rat-trap bonding in some brick walls enhances thermal insulation and reduces brick usage, making it resource-efficient. Additionally, using locally sourced, recycled steel for the staircase emphasizes our commitment to reducing waste and promoting circular economies.

Material selection was carefully considered for its environmental impact and aesthetic contribution. The rammed earth and brick walls, combined with natural finishes, create a visually appealing and eco-friendly palette.

SITH别墅的屋顶设计融合了传统与创新。起居室与首层卧室采用门格洛尔瓦（Mangalore tiles），这种瓦材因其耐久性与隔热性能而闻名，非常适合韦洛尔炎热的气候。后部卧室中的墨西哥穹顶（Mexican dome）则以其鲜明的曲面形态，为建筑增添了独特的空间特征。一层卧室则覆盖于Rohtak穹顶之下，这是一种由砖砌成的传统平穹顶屋面，能够均匀分散荷载，从而无需使用混凝土与模板支撑。这些穹顶不仅增强了建筑的可持续性，也在新旧之间建立起一种视觉对话。

Roofing at SITH Villa blends tradition with innovation. The living room and ground-floor bedroom feature Mangalore tiles, known for their durability and cooling properties, suited to Vellore’s hot climate. The Mexican dome in the rear bedroom adds a unique architectural element with its pronounced curvature. The first-floor bedrooms are sheltered under Rohtak domes, traditional flat dome roofs made of bricks, which distribute weight evenly, eliminating the need for concrete and shuttering. These domes contribute to the building’s sustainability while creating a visual dialogue between old and new.
